LOGGING EXPENSE

expense is logged by sub categories:

  •  each sub category belongs to a category

you can log expense in one of two ways:
1) through the app (normal logging)

2) through the Quick Logging Widget

1) NORMAL LOGGING

YOU HAVEN’T CREATED A SUB CATEGORY FOR THE ITEM YOU WANT TO LOG EXPENSE ON:

  • first you have to decide the category to which the new sub category has to belong

1) THE CATEGORY HASN’T BEEN CREATED OR IT’S BEEN DELETED:

  • tap the + button and then + button on the list,
  • enter a name for a category,
  • then you’re prompted to enter a name for a sub category

2) THE CATEGORY EXISTS ALREADY
A) the category is on the graph
(it means that the category has expense in the month and year shown at the top of the page)

  • you tap on its graph,
  •  tap the + button on the next page that appears:
if you’re not prompted to enter a name for a new sub category, just tap the + button at the top of the list

B) the category isn’t on the graph

  • tap the + button:
it shows a list of all the categories on storage, including the ones on the graphs, you tap the category not on graph

  • the next page opens showing a list of all the category’s sub categories on storage and a + button: you tap the + button

(if a category has its graph on Month Page and you tap the + button and then the card for that category or a card for any of its sub categories,
the next page shows all the category’s sub categories with expense in the month and year at the top of Month Page)

YOU’VE ALREADY CREATED CREATED A SUB CATEGORY FOR THE ITEM YOU WANT TO LOG EXPENSE ON:
1) if you remember the category it belongs to:

A) the category is on the graph

  • you tap its graph:
all the sub categories belonging to that category and with expense in the selected month and year are shown on the next page that appears,
  • to log expense on any of those sub categories, tap its graph
  •  to log expense on any sub category that isn’t on any graph, tap the + button and then one of the sub categories on the list that appears
(as opposed to Month Page, on Sub Categories Page, tapping the + button, lists only the sub categories (of the tapped category) that don’t have expense in the month and year shown
at the top of the page)

B) the category isn’t on the graph

  • you tap the + button
  • a list of all the categories and their sub categories on storage appears:
you tap the name of the category
  • on the next page, a list appears: tap on the name of the sub category

2) if you don’t remember the category it belongs to:

  • you tap the + button
  • switch lists, to category-sub category list and tap the card that lists the sub category, or
  •  switch to sub category-category list and tap the sub category name on the list

YOU DON’T REMEMBER WHETHER YOU CREATED THE CATEGORY YOU WANT TO LOG EXPENSE ON:
(so, the category isn’t on any graph on Month Page)

  • tap the + button,
  • if the name is on the list, you tap it,
  • the next page opens with a list of all the sub categories of the selected category: you tap on the sub category you want to log expense on

YOU’RE NOT SURE WHICH IS THE APPROPRIATE CATEGORY FOR THE ITEM YOU WANT TO LOG EXPENSE ON:

  • tap the + button
  • switch lists to category-sub category list and you’ll see the names of the sub categories belonging to each existing category

WHEN YOU LAUNCH THE APP AGAINST AN EMPTY DATABASE

you’ll see this screen: just tap the card and then the + button and proceed creating your first category and sub category

2) QUICK LOGGING

to log expense on a sub category without having to first select the category to which it belongs

it’s done through:

under these conditions:

  •  the sub category has to exists in the database, already
  • the expense has to be logged on the day it was made (because the expense is saved with the current date as its expense date)
